FIELD REPORTS - X11 to X15 (Miracle Man, Shapes, Darkness Falls, Tooms, Born Again)

X11 MIRACLE MAN

Agent Donald and Agent Chelsea are in a graveyard at midnight to exhume a body.
As the machine digs up the dirt, a crowd of people appear in the distance, walking slowly towards them through the fog.
Their leader, a man dressed in all black, with a black stiff rimmed hat speaks.
He says not to desecrate the body by digging it up.
Agent Donald says:
"too late Freddy Kruger, it's already done."

They look in the coffin.
but there is no body there...
just a folder, marked only with an X.
Donald opens the folder.
it reads:

MYTHOMETER SCORE (0 to 3)
It's how close the episode is to being a mythology episode.

3 = FULL MYTHOLOGY
2 = STRONG HYBRID
1 = WEEK HYBRID*****
0 = MONSTER OF THE WEEK

Because of the references to Mulder's sister and her abduction.

The Sequelizer
[The potential the episode had for a sequel].

MIRACLE MAN had a medium potential for a sequel.
The story could have continued with reverend Hartley
finding a new assistant, and having more 'appearances' of his son, and of Samantha.

X12 SHAPES

Agent Donald and Agent Chelsea are investigating a case where a man has been killed by a strange man/beast creature on an Indian reservation.
Chelsea has left Donald on the reservation and drives to question a victim at his house in the woods.
After talking to the sheriff on the reservation, Donald realizes that Chelsea is in danger because the victim may be the man/beast killer.
Donald and the sheriff drive quickly to the victims house to save Chelsea.
When they get there they see claw marks on the door and all through the house.
Furniture is scattered and broken, as if from a great struggle.
Finally Donald finds Chelsea upstairs in the bathroom.

Donald says:
"Thank goodness! Are you alright?"

Chelsea says:
"Of course, why wouldn't I be?"

Donald says:
"The house has been torn apart!"

Chelsea says:
"I didn't hear anything, these walls must be thick.
But i did find this folder here with an X on it."

Donald says:
"What does it say?"

Chelsea says:
"shapes."

Mark Snows music that was in this episode,

like Mark Snow, I also gave them a latin name.

HOUSE HUNTING:  Domus aucupium
LEAVING THE TREGOS:
PAW PRINT:
MANITU:

GO HOME FBI is: Abeo domus FBI

FAVORITE PARTS:
As promised, I got rid of the 'likes and dislikes' category and replaced it with this one.

In this episode, one of my favorite parts is combined with a 'Mulderizm',
so I'll put them both together in one clip called 'go home FBI'.

But in short, this episode has one of my favorite characters -
Ish, the Indian with 2 different colored eyes.
I love how he always calls Mulder 'FBI'
I wish they did a sequel to this one.
The last scene sets it up perfectly when Ish says to Mulder:
"see you in 8 years?"
referencing how often the attacks happen.

[ MP3 can be heard on the podcast 'Reopening the X-files' - SHAPES:
HTTP://WWW.XFILESPODCAST.COM ]

MULDERIZMS:

ISH: "I could smell you a mile away."
MULDER: "Well, they told me that even though my deodorant's made for a woman, it's strong enough for a man."

MYTHOMETER SCORE (0 to 3)
It's how close the episode is to being a mythology episode.

3 = FULL MYTHOLOGY
2 = STRONG HYBRID
1 = WEEK HYBRID
0 = MONSTER OF THE WEEK*****

The Sequelizer
[The potential the episode had for a sequel]

Shapes had a HIGH potential for a sequel because of how often these cases happen and how the disease lycanthropy,
is transferred.

Finally,
MY 1-10 RATING

I give SHAPES a 9.
Only losing points because of lower budget effects when Lyle transforms into the creature.
Also when Scully is just outside the bathroom door were this is happening but doesn't seem to hear all the growling and screaming.

X13 DARKNESS FALLS

Agent Donald and Agent Chelsea are deep in the Washington forest investigating the disappearance of a team of loggers.
They find the cabin that the team was staying in, and use it as a base while they investigate.
Just before sunset, a man walks into the campsite and tells the agents the story of how the loggers were killed by killer insects from the sky at night.
They all decide to stay inside until morning.
When the sun rises the next day, they all go out into the woods to look for the missing loggers.
After a few hours, they see a huge cocoon attached to the branches, high up in the tree tops.
Donald and the man raise Chelsea up the tree with a pulley to investigate the strange cocoon.
Chelsea reaches it, pulls out a knife, and begins to cut it open.
Donald yells up to Chelsea:
"What's in it?"
Chelsea says:
"Looks flat and brown - like a folder."
Donald says:
"Well open it. What's it say?"
Chelsea says:
"Darkness Falls!... now get me down!"

X-FILE #  UNKNOWN

MY FILE # X13-1.20
[My 13th Field Report]

1st category is
SNOW MACHINE:
Again Mark Snow gives us great music that's not on the sound track.
I have 5 clips in today's field report, with their Latin translations.

'What is it?' is - Quis est is
'CDC' is  - CDC
'Open End' is - Patefaceo terminus
'Itsy bitsy spider' is - Valde Vegandis Aranea
'Cocoon' is - Coccum

FAVORITE PARTS:
Similar to the episode 'Ice',
I like the feeling of isolation that this episode gives us,
letting us know that any form of civilization is more than a days hike away,  which is unreachable when there's a killer swarm that feeds on humans at night.

INSIDE THE X:
Darkness Falls won an Environmental Media Award

MULDERIZMS:

Scully: What kind of insect could have gotten a man all the way up in
            that tree?
Mulder: Itsy Bitsy Spider.

MYTHOMETER SCORE (0 to 3)
Measures how close the episode is to being a mythology episode.

DARKNESS FALLS is a 0 out of 3 - a monster of the week.

3 = FULL MYTHOLOGY
2 = STRONG HYBRID
1 = WEEK HYBRID
0 = MONSTER OF THE WEEK*****

The SEQUELIZER:
[ The potential the episode had for a sequel ]:

DARKNESS FALLS had a HIGH potential for a sequel because of how they ended the episode with the CDC agent telling Mulder:
"that is not an option",
in reference to Mulder's question about not being able to eradicate the contagion.

Finally,
MY 1-10 RATING
I give DARKNESS FALLS a 9 out of 10.
This is an excellent episode, one of the best stand alone episodes.

X14 TOOMS

The following is an encrypted message for Agent Donald of Reopening the X-Files:

Agent Donald, this is Agent Shadow reporting from the field.
Assistant Director Heath Solo has sent Me to an island
off the coast of Salem Massachusetts called Great Misery Island.
It's the largest of a group of islands, and was once inhabited,
but abandoned many years ago.

Agent Donald, the assignment A.D. Solo has given me is to help you
with your current case in finding evidence of an unsolved murder
committed by a - Eugene Victor Tooms
in the early 1900's, supposedly during the construction of a hotel on the island.

I've been taken to Great Misery Island by an FBI helicopter to the area
where the murder is alleged to have occurred.
It's the site of the old hotel that now lies in ruins.

Just before I stepped off the chopper, the pilot handed me a file that reads:
TOOMS.

Latitude:      42.5487066
Longitude:     -70.7981024

Going down is:  Iens subter
A Change For Us is: Abeo pro nos
Crossed Fingers is : Crux fictum
End is: Terminus
Its right here is : Id vox hic
Sanitarium is: Sanitarium

FAVORITE PARTS:
I like when they have the cigarette smoking man standing behind skinner.
It adds mystery and tension to the episode.

INSIDE THE X:
There's a hidden X in the scene were Scully is saving Mulder from Tooms.
Check it out in My screen shots section, along with a couple other shots.

MULDERIZMS:

Mulder:
Do you think they would have taken me more seriously
if I had worn the gray suit?

MYTHOMETER SCORE (0 to 3)
It's a zero to three score on how close the episode is to being a mythology episode.

3 = FULL MYTHOLOGY
2 = STRONG HYBRID
1 = WEEK HYBRID
0 = MONSTER OF THE WEEK*****

Maybe a .5 because of the appearence of C.S.M

The SEQUELIZER:
[The potential the episode had for a sequel]

TOOMS had a medium potential for a sequel because it looked like he died
under the escalator, but with Tooms - who knows?
At least TOOMS is the sequel to SQUEEZE.

Finally,
MY 1-10 RATING

I give Tooms an 8.5 - very good.
Compared to other 'monster of the weeks' it's probably a 9.
Compared to other  shows on TV it's a 9.5

X15 BORN AGAIN

Agent Donald,
this is Agent Shadow reporting from Great Misery island.
I have reached the ruins of the old hotel and I've found a hidden entrance to a lower level of the old hotel.
It looks like there's a main control room with computers, radio transmitters and other electronic equipment.
There is also a second room connected to the 1st room.
I'm entering it now.
Wow!
It's not a room, but it looks like a long tunnel.
There are rows of filing cabinets lining both sides of the path down the tunnel.
It looks like these filing cabinets hold copies of
the original X-Files that Agents Mulder and Scully had been working on.
There are also separate cabinets that have folders of Agents working on Re-opening the X-Files.
Donald, these are current folders.
This place is not abandoned.
Someone is following your work.
The most current folder in your cabinet says:

                                     BORN AGAIN

X-FILE # X-40271

MY FILE # X15-1.22

1st category is
SNOW MACHINE:
Mark Snows music that was in this episode,
but was not on the sound track.
like Mark Snow, I also gave them a Latin name.
I am not a Latin expert!

'Payback' is: Pactum (pact).
'Revenge' is a closer meaning which is: Ultionis

'Signature hit' is: Signum ledo
'Frame by frame' is: Frame per frame
'The 1-4' is: Unus quattuor
'Bus ride' is: Plaustrum (wagon) veho

'Deny everything' is: Denego panton

INSIDE THE X:
Again the X-Files gives me something I never noticed before.
It's very subtle, but in the scene where Michelle is doing hypno-therapy,
you can hear Michelle's voice mixed with a lower males voice.

DR. SPITZ: And how old are you?
MICHELLE: Twenty-four. (she suddenly becomes agitated) No! We can't! We can't do this! It's wrong!

Here's a section that may be a regular.
It was inspired by the episode FALLEN ANGEL:

XANAGRAMS:
It's My X-File version of anagrams.
As you probably know, an anagram is
a word or phrase made by transposing all the letters of another word or phrase.

In Fallen Angel, Max Fenig and Mulder were talking:

MAX FENIG: I saw your picture in a trade magazine once.
And of course I read your article in Omni about the Gulf Breeze sightings.
MULDER: I published that under a pseudonym.
MAX FENIG: M.F. Luder. I know. M.F. Luder is an anagram for F. Mulder.
You really didn't think that would fool us did you?

So, thanks to M.F. Luder,
Here's 2 sets of anagrams.
The 1st is for the words: REOPENING THE X-FILES:

Foreseen Pixel Thing
Telephone Fringe Six (fringe - the X-File ripoff)
Serpentine Helix Fog (the smoke trail after a helicopter takes off)
Teensier Helping Fox
(we are helping Fox Mulder, in a small - teensy way)

The second set of anagrams is for the words - Born Again - today's file:
A Organ Bin
A Rain Bong
No Bargain
Gain An Orb

SCREEN SHOTS:
http://s297.photobucket.com/albums/mm215/FIREFLYcaptain/X-Files/

MULDERIZMS:

On whether Barbala's death was a suicide:

MULDER: Plus jumpers tend to open the window before they jump.

MYTHOMETER SCORE (0 to 3)
Measures how close the episode is to being a mythology episode.

3 = FULL MYTHOLOGY
2 = STRONG HYBRID
1 = WEEK HYBRID
0 = MONSTER OF THE WEEK*****

THE SEQUELIZER:
[The potential the episode had for a sequel]

Born Again had a LOW potential for a sequel.
I suppose they could have done a sequel type of episode,
but I think it would have looked too much like this episode.
Plus they didn't leave us with the classic "open end".

Finally,
MY 1-10 RATING:

I give Born Again an 8, it was very good.
Compared to other 'monster of the weeks' it's probably still an 8.
Compared to other shows on TV it's probably a 9.

So...
Pending any further evidence, this case,

X-FILE # X-40271
